Cleveland Classic Series Drivers

In the 1990's, we were asked by Ely Callaway to launch the revolutionary Big Bertha, Great Big Bertha and Biggest Big Berthas that completely dominated the golf industry for a decade. When Ely passed away, the industry lost its greatest marketer — and we lost enthusiasm for the succession of me-too clubs that ensued. So, twenty years later, it's exciting to discover a new driver that's clearly inspired by tradition, yet breaks new ground in Ultralite Technology.

Retro Looks — The Cleveland Classic preserves the traditional pear-shaped profile of my old persimmon McGregor Tourney MT-1. But of course the modern, oversized 460cc head (440cc Tour model) inspires confidence on the tee. The incredibly large and deep face creates a huge effective hitting area and sweet spot for maximum forgiveness and distance on off-center hits. The gold-toned trapezoid insert in the center of the face is a familiar design cue that recalls the great clubs of the classic era. And the handsome sole design pays homage to golf's heritage.

Ultralite — Despite its retro good looks, the Cleveland Classic weighs 30 to 50 grams less than most competing drivers. This attention to weight reduction makes it easier to measurably increase your swing speed. So you gain distance with the same swing effort, instead of trying to swing out of your shoes! Despite its Titanium construction, ultra-thin crown and variable face thickness, Cleveland retained sufficient mass in the clubhead for both power and forgiveness. But superlite Miyazaki graphite shafts and new lightweight grips from Lamkin and Golf Pride enabled Cleveland to create unique grip, shaft and clubhead combinations that optimize performance for different golfers. We suggest the Classic 270 for senior golfers and those interested in lightest weight (270 grams) and fastest swing speeds — in either Regular or Senior flexes. Mid-handicappers should select the Classic 290 (290 grams) in either Regular or Stiff flex. And low handicappers looking for a more penetrating ball flight, should choose the Tour Classic (310 grams) in Regular or Stiff flex. Each model delivers greater distance with less effort, and vintage good looks! Specify shaft flex and loft when ordering.
