1957 Maserati 250F In 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio was locked in a bitter duel with his two biggest rivals, Peter Collins and Mike Hawthorn, for the Formula One World Championship title. To further compound the tension, Fangio drove for Maserati, while Collins and Hawthorn drove for Ferrari. At the German Grand Prix, Fangio piloted this 270 hp, 6 cylinder monoposto Maserati to victory in front of 200,000 rabid fans at the Nürburgring, clinching his fifth and final World Championship Driver's title - and his last victory.
CMC's all-metal replica of this historic racer consists of 1387 hand-assembled parts, including an accurate recreation of the original tubular space frame in metal. Incredible details - all in metal, not plastic - include the matte black exhaust pipe manifold; ribbed brake drums; deDion rear axle with transverse compound spring; and the streamlined body with actual ventilation slots, and 301 individual rivets! Fully detailed engine bay and interior, and stainless steel Borrani knock-offs, make this a replica of ridiculous realism!
1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SLR In 1955, Mercedes decided to challenge for the manufacturer's Sports Car Championship with the aggressively streamlined 300 SLR. Stirling Moss, with journalist Denis Jenkinson as navigator, started the successful season by winning the 1955 Mille Miglia in an unbelievable average speed of 157.65 KM/hr for 1000 miles!
Moss' 7:22 a.m. starting time became his race number, and CMC's museum-quality, all-metal replica captures the breathtaking lines, and the complex details of this historic roadster - with over 1500 individual parts! The interior is absolutely authentic (I've seen the actual SLR up close!), with Moss' signature 3-spoke wheel, leather and plaid seats, and exacting instrumentation.
The headrest fairings flip up with the hatch, exposing the removable twin spare wheels. The stainless spoke wheels on aluminum rims can actually be removed by the realistic 3-eared knock-offs. The in-line 8 cylinder engine is a marvel of German engineering and efficiency - replicated here in stunning detail.
And CMC even includes a replica of the innovative roller map devised by Jenkinson to document the pitfalls of the 1000 mile course - on a paper roll over 20' in length!
