Back in the 1950’s, my Dad used to take us to the dealerships every September to see the newest from Detroit. This was a major annual event, and Detroit cooperated by unveiling all of its new models at the same time. Back then I could identify the year, make, and model of every car made, literally, just with a glimpse of a taillight or grill as it flashed by at 60 mph. Then one day Dick Tunison, a friend of my Dad’s, came by with a brand new Jaguar XK-120 roadster — white with red leather — and I became a sports car enthusiast for life. Just the rich aroma of fine Connolly leather would have been enough — but the voluptuous curves of that Jaguar obviously made a lasting impression on me, and planted the seeds for a lifetime pursuit of design excellence.
In deciding to share The Herrington Collection with our customers, it occurred to me that the process of pursuing and acquiring rare and beautiful automobiles for our Collection is absolutely inseparable from what we do here at the Herrington Catalog. It is in fact a passion for exceptional design that guides product selection for the Catalog — the same appreciation for outstanding industrial design that has built one of the world’s foremost Ferrari Collections. And it is the opportunity to travel to exotic international locales to attend Concours de Elegance, Automobile Auctions, and Vintage Races — from Palm Beach to Pebble Beach, from Lake Cuomo to London — that also creates opportunities to discover some of Europe’s most enticing and distinctive new products.
