We were on a whirlwind tour of Italy and Slovenia when I stumbled across a hidden gem. Not far from the shores of Lake Bled - surely one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in all of Europe, with shockingly green, crystal-clear water that glistens like emeralds in the sun - we discovered the Lake Bled Golf and Country Club. Carved from alpine meadows with majestic mountain views, and lush, pine-tree lined fairways - I just had to play. Renting clubs was no problem, but I didn't pack golf shoes. So I bought these great-looking ECCO shoes in the pro shop.
 Comfort and Stability - As Europe's leading brand, renowned throughout the Continent for comfort, Denmark-based ECCO's are worn by many of the up and coming young stars on the European tour, like Thomas Bjorn and Steven Jeppesen. And no wonder, as they're just plain lighter and more comfortable than anything I've found over here. I assume this is why both Freddie Couples and Aaron Baddeley - two U.S. players who could wear any brand shoe they liked - wear ECCO exclusively.
 An innovative Super Leggera (super lightweight) carbon-fiber shank is placed low in the shoe, placing your foot closer to the ground for enhanced stability. A triple-density, direct-injected outsole creates a lightweight power platform that lets you push off with maximum torque during your swing's power move - while a Dynamic Energy midsole absorbs shock and uses a trampoline effect to reduce foot and back fatigue. Full-grain Hydromax leather uppers are permanently waterproofed in tanning; yet remain soft and supportive as they mold quickly to your feet. I walked 18 at Lake Bled right out of the box, so I can attest that this is a highly stable shoe that still needs absolutely no break-in whatsoever.
 And ECCO's Champ Stinger soft cleats (Q-Lok receptacle system) provide impressive traction, even climbing Bled's steep fairways - still damp and slick from Alpine dew. Other comfort details include a padded, gusseted tongue that stays in place; a breathable mesh lining for air circulation; completely sealed seams for waterproofness; and a removable foam footbed for extra cushioning.
