Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta, S.p.A, or simply “Beretta” to James Bond, “Q”, and other connoisseurs of quality, is the world’s oldest industrial firm, enduring for nearly 500 years of continuous operation. They are of course the world’s most respected gunmaker, and as I discovered recently in London, makers also of exceptionally fine sportswear. Located on chic St. James Street, right around the corner from the historic Ritz on Picadilly, Beretta’s London Emporium is one of just six such galleries worldwide.
En route to the Ferrari factory in Maranello, to test drive the new 599GTB, I badly needed suitable clothing to endure Italy’s infamous summer heat. So I turned to Beretta, figuring who better than Italy’s oldest firm would understand the needs of travelers to Northern Italy? Here is just one of my favorite acquisitions.
 Trident — Beretta’s Trident Polo exhibits legendary Beretta quality in every detail. Pure cotton pique with open, hexagonal weave naturally wicks and ventilates — so you’ll always feel cool and composed, never clammy. Much softer than ordinary polos, with reinforced side vents for wearing out, yet with desirable long tennis tail, should you engage in vigorous activity (rather than idle pursuits!).
