In 1957, the Commission Sportive Internationalé ruled that the 1958 World Sports Car Championship would be governed by a 3-liter maximum engine displacement. This in response to the tragic accident at the 1957 Mille Miglia, in which Alphonso de Portago, a Ferrari Team driver, crashed and killed himself and a dozen spectators in a 4.5-liter engined Ferrari. But the CSI also wanted to foster more competitive races among more constructors, breaking the stranglehold of Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari responded with the magnificent 250 Testa Rossa V-12 Series. Sporting a wildly sensuous, pontooned-fender body, the Testa Rossa (Italian for ‘Red Head’) was so named because of its distinctive, blood-red valve covers. Now GMP has created an exacting replica of the magnificent 250 TR motor, in imposing 1/6 scale.
 Red Head — At nearly 16” long and 2 lbs., GMP’s Testa Rossa Replica V-12 makes an imposing and powerful statement on your desk. Six, twin-throat Weber 38 DCN carburetors dominate, breathing through authentic chromed velocity stacks Ferrari reserved just for competition motors. Twin Marelli distributors supply the spark through 12 plug wires. The Testa Rossa’s signature red crackle valve covers proudly display the raised letters of the Ferrari logo. Accurate right down to the competition ribbed crankcase and transmission housing that Ferrari cast from magnesium alloy to save weight! You can manually rotate the 3-blade fan, and even ‘check’ the oil with the removable dipstick. But here’s the best part. Push the red starter button, and your Testa Rossa leaps to life, throbbing at idle with the unmistakable sound of the legendary Ferrari V-12! Shift the transmission through the chromed shift gate, and you’ll actually hear your Testa Rossa wind through the gears, screaming as it approaches the 7500 RPM red line.
 When you’re ready to park it for the night, your TR Engine rests on its own cherry presentation base, under a clear, museum-quality display cover. Hand assembled from die-cast components, and amazingly accurate right down to the individual springs on the Webers! Only 1500 of these Limited Edition Engines have been created.
